5 Weeks Since Surgery

As promised, I continue to document the double ostectomy. Today, I got out of the cast and into the walking boot/air cast. I am cleared for walking in it, but it was pretty painful, so I still used a crutch part time. I'll be in the walking boot for 2 weeks. I took this picture tonight for a visual reference (right after I shaved 5 weeks worth of hair growth off of my leg). Why the bandage? The incision is still healing. Hopefully, that will come off next week.

Solicitation

Oh people of Blog Land:
I throw out a request...I am in the market for license plates because of a little project which necessitates such monikers. State varieties that are old, new, but preferably sorts that belong on cars. I am looking for almost all 50 states. So, if you have one laying around in your garage and you would like to send it to me, well, please comment here! I'll pay your shipping at least. Or, just save them for the next time we meet up. Many thanks ahead of time!

Update: 2 MORE Weeks In The Cast

Unemcumbered. A Mantra?

Reflecting back, I've always had this preference about riding in cars: I can't stand anything at my feet. It is REALLY important to me during road trips. I must have a totally blank floorboard. I don't like CD's and maps at my feet. I don't want to be kicking around some snacks. Floorboards are no place for pillows or purses. Everything needs to be packed in the trunk, cargo area, or if it needs to be accessed then under the seat is acceptable. I'm pretty emphatic about this car commandment still today. Obviously, no one is trying to force crap in the floorboard on me. It doesn't come up much.

I'm only writing about it here because recently while walking to my car after work, and Lisa asked me why I wasn't wearing a coat. I responded that it wasn't that cold (only 30ish), I didn't have far to walk to/from my car, and well, I don't like having extra "stuff" to deal with.

I don't like to carry a purse much, but I love backpacks. I don't like to wear jackets except for a special occasion. I can't stand high heels and fluff. I always travel light. If possible, I like to carry on my luggage (always stored above head of course!) when flying.

Over this past week, I've thought about these little nuances in my personality and tried to sort out what they pointed to. My conclusion: I'm always ready to make a move. And, to make a move I can't be wearing a big coat, high heels, and a purse over my shoulder. I surely can't be waiting for my luggage to come off the rounder at the airport. And, I definitely can't be slipping on CD cases and hamburger wrappers under my feet if I need to jump out of a car.

I'm Not As Loyal As The Husband

Yes, my husband is as loyal as they come. He will stand by his favorite actor, musician, singer, and athletes. Even if they do something that will sour most everyone. Scott will go down fighting for them to the death. Well, NOT ME! Point in case...Rosie "Ro" O'Donnell. You know, back in '92 when I first saw Rosie as the host of VH1's Stand Up Spotlight, I thought she was funny and a cool chick. Then, she was in that great movie, A League of Their Own and I thought, that Rosie is a big confident girl that makes me laugh. I was a fan. Next, Rosie hit the big time with her talk show in 1996. I watched her show and thought she was such a real person since she was always giving stuff away to her audience, and she just seemed so normal. Not to mention, she was pretty darn sarcastic which is always good for laughs.
But, in 2002 she just quit the show. She started getting sort of weird. She cut her hair all nutty. However, I still tried to hang in there as a fan of hers. She's gay...I'm mean, duh...like we didn't know this?? So what? I was supportive and may have bought her magazine once. I sort of chalked her erratic behavior up to the craziness that stars get when they have been famous too long. You know? Like Michael Jackson and Elvis? They get all rich and famous and like lose touch with reality. Well, I sort of thought that was happening to Rosie.

Well, not so fast because she's been out of the spotlight for a few years now. She's had time to reflect on her life and enjoy her many adopted kids and her wife. Then, last year she gets a spot on The View. Well, I was pretty interested in seeing her on the view. I mean after all, I was a Rosie fan from way back. The View was always OK to me. It made for a good commercial-filler in between The Price Is Right segments. But, once I heard Rosie was on, I set the TIVO to catch a couple of episodes. Fast forward...I'm no longer a Rosie fan. I'm not that loyal to my "favs." The few times I've seen Rosie on The View, I was just turned off by her aggressive behavior and cynical opinions. She seemed so bitter and domineering. On Tuesday, the other ladies barely could get a word in about their weekend before Rosie loudly proclaimed herself a fat lesbian, mocking Trump. Then, she said it was a hard weekend and that she drank a lot of beer. I mean, there's nothing wrong with drinking beer (duh), but I hardly see "The View" as a program that is watched by beer drinkers. I mean, what was her purpose? The other chicks on the view just gave her courtesy smiles and blank stares while she answered all of her own "moderator" questions. It got annoying. I'm like, this is The "View", not Rosie's Rants about being gay, being against the war, and hating men. Why doesn't she just chill on the hatred? It is a total turn off. Be a happy lesbian like, Ellen . I just want to say that she needs to quit using the name "Ro" because that is obviously, my name. And, she needs to quit drinking haterade. She may have good points, but she's so bitter it is hard to listen to them.

Click Here To See Funny Website...

Now, I'm not trying to make a political statement. I like Katie Curic ok? I'm even intrigued by Hillary Clinton as President. I just happened across This Website when I was looking for Rosie O'Donnell photos on Google. I thought it was sort of funny, so I put it on. I'm a fan of smart women...Democratic and Republican. Don't hate the player. Don't hate the website.

Fake Dinosaurs and Pigmy Hippos

While searching at school for a science picture for a presentation, I came across this website/blog http://www.inkycircus.com/jargon/science/index.html that first grabbed me with the great photos. Then, I read several posts, and I'm pumped to read the rest. Maybe it is the science nerd in me, but this site is awesome!

3 Weeks Post-Op

As you can see, my toe is straighter. But, don't get used to that view because this foot is back in the cast as I sit here typing this to you. I'm still on crutches with NO WEIGHT allowed. I was able to snap these pics in the doctors office as they cleaned it up, changed the dressings, and took x-rays. The doctor told me to start some resistance exercises. But, no walky-walky yet.

The ironic part of the visit was that his nurse/medical assistant looked at me sort of with a thinking look, then she said, "He put you in a cast?"
I said, "Yeah. You don't see many casts in here?"
CJ said, "No. For bunions? No."
So, I'm not sure what that means, but I'm thinking I must have been a pretty darn severe case. I'll be keeping the updates flowing. So, check back soon if you like nasty feet!

P.S.S.'s For those of you interested:

He used stiches on the inside so they don't have to be removed, and supposedly I'll have a lovely scar.

It hurt like heezey when he did the resistance business. I think doctors like that stuff. I know I would.

Hide And Watch...What?

Now that I've been in a wheelchair and on crutches for three weeks. I have sympathy. I have empathy. I've been thinking about it for like 20 days: Man, people in wheel chairs have it tough! But, I didn't want to say that because I didn't want to act like I really knew what it was like. I mean, I know there is an end. But, I'm going to say now that I've got a whole new prospective on folks that live in wheelchairs. I totally give props to them. I mean, I'm about to freaking lose it.

I'm so frustrated at this cast of non-walking-ness that I want to scream or throw stuff or cut my forearms with razor blades. Ok, sorry, that got a little too dark. Seriously, I'm so angry at my current hobbled situation that I am close to falling into a mini depression. Thank goodness there is an end in site, or I would totally fall off the edge of sanity. So, here within this post, I tip my virtual 40 to all the peeps keepin' it real in the 'chairs. Yeah, I just got wheel ghetto. This post is already making me feel better.

I go to the doctor this week. I'm not getting my hopes up of getting this cast off. It will probably be one more week. Still, don't think I won't try to wow the doctor with toe antics and flexibility. I'll put my best foot forward.

Last thing...
Hear me now. Believe me later...
This cast has made me realize that once I'm able to walk again, I will not complain about shit for like at least 6 months. I thought taking care of Scout was hard when I was walking. Well, not anymore sportsfans. That will be a walk the stinking park. Literally. I thought feeding the animals and filing papers was hard when I was on two feet. I've seen the errors of my thoughts. Hide and watch I say: I will be a busy happy worker bee come walky time.

Fat Elvis, Skinny Elvis, Dead Elvis...Happy Birthday

We went to Chuy's to celebrate a couple of birthdays: Charlie is the old age of 26 and Elvis is, well, dead. But, if he were alive he'd be 72. There was only one Charlie, but there were several "Elvis's and Priscilla's" in the house. The Elvis impersonator made time fly while we waited for a table. Chuy's in my favorite restaurant because of the food, and it didn't let me down. Charlie wasn't afraid to order the Elvis Memorial Combo plate. I was so excited that she went for it. We got some Twinkies for dessert since they were on the house in honor of The King.

Charlie...you make a great Elvis face. But, those Elvis's must have thought you were looking more like Priscilla!

Seriously...A Wheelchair?

So, here I am...in a wheelchair. Yeah, the doctor called the day after surgery and said, I'm sending a wheelchair over to be delivered. I was like, "uh, I don't...um, a wheelchair?....uh, I don't think I...." Well, yeah, I'm totally using it now. I guess he knew what he was talking about because it does get old crutching around. But, man the wheelchair will make you feel like you are seriously crippled. I hop around the house, crawl around on the floor, and then I wheel around the house. I even wheeled down the street today...I totally looked like a 'tard. But, I'm on doctor's orders to not put any weight on my right foot at all for like 4 or 5 more weeks. So, there is the cast, and there is the no weight. It stinks being crippled.
